Term 2, Week 4
Dear Families,
As we reach nearly the midpoint of Term 2, it’s been wonderful to see our school community thriving amidst the crisp, cool mornings and the stunningly clear days that follow. The autumn weather has certainly brought a refreshing energy to our playgrounds and classrooms! Last week we also celebrated Catholic Education Week here in South Australia, embracing the 2025 theme: “Shine with Open Hearts.” At St Brigid’s, we took this opportunity to reflect on how we can live with love and peace in our daily lives. During our Heart Learning sessions, students engaged in a range of meaningful activities from creating heart-themed art to writing messages of hope and encouragement, our students truly shone with open hearts. It was a beautiful reminder of the values that guide us as a Catholic school community.
This week, our students enthusiastically took part in National Simultaneous Storytime 2025, joining thousands of children across the country in reading together. At St Brigid’s, we paired up with our buddy classes to enjoy the story The Truck Cat. After listening, students tackled an exciting obstacle course—going over, under, and through—just like the adventurous cat in the story! A huge thank you to the fabulous Ms Mardi for designing such a fun and engaging course. At the finish line, each student received a beautiful butterfly and a certificate to mark the occasion. It was a joyful celebration of literacy and community, and a reminder of the power of stories to connect us all.
We’re also pleased to report that our building works are progressing well. The construction team has been working efficiently, and we remain on track with our timelines. These improvements will bring exciting new learning spaces and facilities that will benefit our students for years to come.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school. We look forward to sharing more updates as the term progresses.

Mothers Day Liturgy
On the 9th of May, our School community came together to celebrate Mother's Day and honour the special people in our lives. The day began with a delightful coffee morning, where families and friends gathered to enjoy warm beverages and delicious treats. The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter as everyone chatted and shared stories.
Following the coffee morning, the 4/5 class led a beautiful liturgy that touched the hearts of all who attended. Their thoughtful readings, prayers, and songs created a meaningful and reflective experience for everyone present. It was truly wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate and support one another.
We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community. Your presence and participation made this celebration a memorable one. Thank you for joining us in honouring the special people in our lives and for helping to strengthen the bonds within our school community.
New Pope – Pope Leo X1V
We are excited to share the joyful news of the election of Pope Leo XIV as the new leader of the Catholic Church on Friday, 9th May. Chosen through prayerful discernment and guided by the Holy Spirit, Pope Leo brings with him a deep commitment to compassion, unity, and service. As we welcome his papacy, we pray that his leadership will inspire hope, strengthen our faith, and guide the global Church with wisdom and love. May Pope Leo XIV be a beacon of peace and renewal for all.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is "Bridging Now to Next". This theme encourages reflection on the past, present, and future, urging all Australians to work together towards a more united and respectful nation.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
6th Sunday of Easter
On the 6th Sunday of Easter, the themes focus on love and the Holy Spirit. Jesus tells His disciples to love one another as He has loved them. He also promises to send the Holy Spirit to help and guide them. This Sunday reminds us that love is at the heart of our faith and that the Holy Spirit is always with us, offering support and guidance in our daily lives.

On Thursday, a select group of students from Years 4 to 6 represented St Brigid’s at the SACPSSA Lacrosse Carnival. A range of boys and girls participated in their respective divisions. Our 5/6A Boys were the standout side being undefeated for the entire day. While our other girls and boys sides had mixed results. There were some great individual performances at the carnival with Jonesmith, Farhad, Nina, Tiana and Lydia excelling for their teams. Overall, it was a fantastic day all round and it was pleasing to see such fantastic skill, participation and spirit from our students. Thank you to Miss James, Mr Nathan and Mrs Mara for their help and support on the day.

On Wednesday 21st May we gathered to participate in the 2025 National Simultaneous Storytime. This is where all schools, childcare centres, libraries etc come together at the same time on the same day to read the same book. This year the book is called The Truck Cat.
Tinka the truck cat travels with his human Yacoub in his big B-double tri-axle truck making deliveries far and wide across the land. Until one day they are separated when Tinka is distracted by following a butterfly at a roadside stop and were separated for a whole season. Tinka is found by a lovely lady named Mari who takes him home to her Bakery and cares for him.
Eventually Tinka and Yacoub are reunited and together with Mari they become a new family. Sometimes Tinka is a truck cat and sometimes he is a bakery cat.
We came together at 11:30 to read the book in two groups. The students all enjoyed the book and shared their favourite parts. After this the students gathered in the courtyard to participate in an activity. Unfortunately, at this time we were rained out but came together a little later to complete the activity.
The obstacle course was created to mimic the way Tinker was playing tag with a butterfly in the book when he was separated from Yacoub. Here, There, Over, Under. The students had a great time going all over the school following a path of butterflies which ended on the school oval.
Once they gathered on the oval they were asked to go to a section to find a butterfly on a stick to take home and keep. It was lovely to see the students playing with these in the yard at lunchtime. The course was left out during the lunch break for the students to redo as may times as they liked.
Also during Recess and Lunch Clubs we had some cat and truck colouring in pages for the students to do and the students loved the display in the library cabinet leading up to the day.
The day has been packed with activities and the students have enjoyed them all.

Playgroup:
The last two weeks of playgroup we have had some colourful activities and celebrated families. It’s been great to see some families engaging with Piper the playgroup Magpie’s book basket! Each week Piper finds items around the hub related to a book. See if you can find the items in the book, and use the items to tell the story!
On Wednesday Week 5, 28th of May there will be NO playgroup because I will be at the Community Hubs Australia Conference in Melbourne.
For updates as they happen, follow us on our facebook page!
English classes
English classes are on Thursdays 10-12pm. Unfortunately because I am away at the conference there is no-one to look after children on Thursday 29th of May.
These classes are open to all, and a great opportunity to practice your English! Run by a qualified teacher. Contact me for more information.
Volunteering
You may have heard of more and more excursions starting to happen! If you would like to volunteer and go along on your child’s class excursion you will need to fill in and return a volunteer application pack. You can get one of these from me or the front office.
To become a volunteer you need to have a Working With Children Check - WWCC (free for volunteers) and complete the 2 hour online RRHAN-EC training course. I can help you with this. Please talk to me for more information.
DHS Connecting through play workshop
At the end of the term we will host a 2-part workshop on connecting with your children through play! Again, all are welcome but please register with me! I can be contacted on 0480 277 409.

Week 3:
With another week of beautiful weather, some children wanted to play outside, building sandcastles and playing team games such as baseball or soccer, while others came inside to challenge each other in a game of magical statues. Later in the week, the children showcased their teamwork and collaborative skills to construct their own towers out of the jumbo LEGO. It was amazing to see the variety of activity the children engaged with this week! (Learning Outcome 4.1, 3.2).
Week 4:
With their natural curiosity and eagerness to explore new ideas, our OSHC group engaged in a wonderful discussion about what they would like to be when they grow up. It was truly inspiring to see the variety of careers the children envisioned for themselves, each one reflecting their unique interests and passions. Some shared dreams of becoming police officers, others expressed a desire to teach, and one child even aspired to be a school principal! How amazing to witness such thoughtful ambition at this age. (Learning Outcome 2.1, 1.3)
